The Story Behind Our Competition

The Story of how we evolved from a National Level Tournament to International One

Highlights OF National Moot Court Competition 2017
(NMCC 2017)

It was a three day event which included registration, exchange of memorials, and briefing of the participants, cake cutting ceremony followed by a gala dinner was organized, to celebrate the very first National level Moot Court Competition hosted by Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, NMIMS. Second and third day were for the moot rounds and the participants got a good opportunity to engage in some salubrious interactions with the opponent teams as well as the other participating teams, and strike new ties.

The participants of the event came from 30 colleges across India, and were judged by renowned luminaries such as Hon’ble Justice R.K. Agrawal(Retd.), Senior Advocate from Supreme Court and High Court, Partners and Associates from firms like Khaitan & Co, Nishith Desai Associates, Economic Law Practices, ALMT Legal, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan etc. 

The moot problem for NMCC 2017 was an array of contemporary international tax issues. The compromise explores issues that penetrate into basic tenets of taxation law such as International Business Restructuring, Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and General Anti Avoidance Rules.

  • Runner-up team- Indian Law Society, Pune.
  • Best Memorial Award- Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. 
  • Best Speaker Award- Ms.Shreya Mohapatra, Indian Law Society, Pune.

The three day event began with the inaugural ceremony that was graced with the presence of Mr. G.P. Garg (NISM); Dr. Rajendra Saxena (Vice Chancellor, NMIMS); Senior Prof. Paritosh Basu and Asst. Prof. Sohini Shrivastava (Faculty-in-charge)  who addressed the participants about the importance of law and the future of litigation in India. The function concluded with the Chairperson of the event declaring the courts officially open.

The next two days saw rigorous mooting by the participants which was adjudged by some of the most elite names in the legal industry.

The final round was followed by a valedictory ceremony. The valedictory ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Kirit P. Mehta, Mr. Shalin Divatia, Dr.Meena Chintamaneni, Mr. Harshal Shah, Mr. Sandip Ghose and Ms. Sohini Shrivastav. The event was also graced by faculties of KPM SOL.

WBNUJS was declared as the winner of the 2 National Moot Court Competition and DES Pune emerged as the runner-up. Niyati Shah from DES Pune won the title of Best Speaker and NUSRL Ranchi won the Best Memorial Prize.
